Catalina Quilting Class Level Codes

 

Beginner: No quilting experience or knowledge.

Beginner Plus: Some Experience: Completed beginners & intermediate “Learning to Quilt” classes.
Intermediate: Quilting experience related to class content a must. Class is challenging.

Advanced: The experienced quilter will be provided new techniques & challenges.


Catalina Quilting Class Policies

Payment is due at time of class signup. A supply list will be provided then. Store credit will only be given for class cancellations with seven (7) days advance notice of class date. No exceptions will be made.
If class registration is below class minimum (3), class may be cancelled. Full class refund or transfer will be made (your choice). We reserve the right to cancel a class if there is not a minimum of three students.

Class Supplies discount: Required class patterns and other supplies will be discounted at 10% and Books 20% when purchased day of class.

Patterns, books & handouts cannot be shared or photocopied due to copyright laws. Let’s work together to keep these talented & creative designers in business.

Basic Technique Classes
Learning to Quilt – Beginners
In this one session, you will learn about rotary cutting, quarter inch seams & all the other things that beginning quilt making is about. You will go home with blocks to be proud of! Your Instructor is Cathy Munson.

Learning to Quilt – Finishing
Now that you have those blocks finished, what do you do next? How do you get your table runner or place mat ready for quilting? How do you make binding & join it for a nice finish? The answers to these questions & more are in this class! Your instructor is Cathy Munson.

Square-in-a-Square
Square in a square placemats. Do Pineapple placemats that look difficult because of all the angles, but you will never have to cut or sew on the bias. Minimal measuring. One placemats will be completed during class time. Ruler Required. Your instructor is Sue Moyer.

Confusion
Confusion is a lively piece achievable by quilters of all levels. If you can cut strips and squares, you can create Confusion! A variety of final designs are possible to make this piece uniquely your own. Piece an oversized quilt block, tilt and re-cut using all your scraps for trimming for the pieced border. Pattern Required. Your instructor is Cathy Munson

Beginning Paper Piecing
In this one session class, learn the basics of paper piecing using simple patterns. Instructor will provide instructions, patterns & foundation paper. Knowledge of rotary cutting required. Your nstructor is Loretta Edgerton.

The Dresden Plate block is an old favorite that we

It’s All in the Bag!
In this 2-part class, you will create a trendy, quilted purse using just two compatible fabrics. It comes in three sizes & is loaded with pockets. Basic Machine Quilting
This class is not your ordinary beginning class. Learn a great new approach to machine quilting &, by class end, have some basic designs to take home & finish your quilt tops with – plus a new way of choosing what design to use on your quilts. Your instructor is Penny Allen.

This reversible table runner is a wonderful project

Machine Appliqué
This is a new technique for crating the look of
hand appliqué but were afraid to try OR if you love turned under edges and hand appliqué but want to live long enough to finish an appliqué quilt, you’ll LOVE this technique. Your instructor is Penny Allen.

Meet Your Feet
What do all those feet do that come with your machine? Did you know that you can also do rolled hems and tatting with them? Learn some amazing things about your sewing machine. Bring all the feet that came with your machine. All fabrics and a notebook will be provided for you. All you need is thread and a glue stick (like the lipstick). Instructor: Linda Brush

Advanced Paper Piecing
“Animal Fun”
Now that you’ve mastered paper piecing, it’s time to advance to the next step. We will have patterns to make either a cute and cuddly cat or dog into a pillow or wall hanging. Required magazine . Your instructor is Loretta Edgerton.

Locker Hooking
Locker hooking uses fabric strips & is a fun, easy craft similar to traditional rug hooking but with a twist. Most supplies provided. Your instructors are Penny Goldwater & Jennifer Curtsinger.

New Orleans Puzzle
In this two part technique class, you will learn
a lot about fabric color & value, as well as “no binding’ binding on quilts. Strip cutting will be the manner of cutting as you work on this 42” octagonal table topper. Accuracy in cutting & piecing will be strongly emphasized. Your instructor is Ellie Cannan & she will provide pattern instructions & templates.

Four Patch Stacked Posies
For those of you who are intimidated by those
kaleidoscope type quilt blocks, this is a much simpler block, quick and easy. In this half-day class, we will work on the four-patch squares in class and discuss background and binding
fabrics which you will assemble outside of class. It will be fun and surprising to see each other’s squares. Pattern required. Your instructor is Fran Dorr.

Autumn Leaves
Bargello is a traditional form of needlework using a long stitch, but in quilting, we emulate this look with strips of fabric in the various colors needed to create stunning quilts. Bargello quilts
are relatively easy to create, yet they look very complex. Join us for the fun in this all day class. Required pattern. Your instructor is Linda Brush.

Baby Bears

Twisted Log Cabin
You’ve seen it shown and demonstrated on
“Simply Quilts” . . . brightly colored “windmills” floating against a dark background. The block is a paper pieced triangle. It is a great way to learn about color values. Book & Kit required. Your instructor is Fran Dorr.

Log Cabin
This quilt pattern is easy to sew — no curves, angles or bias edges. It Can be a wonderful scrap quilt or a planned color scheme. Its design & versatility seem endless. Using Marti Mitchell’s new log cabin ruler will guarantee all your blocks are cut the same size. Required ruler and book. Your instructor is Cathy Munson.

“A Doodle Bag”
The “Doodle Bag” is a quick & fun little purse made from simple rectangles that you “doodle’ all over with using fun threads, ribbons & decorative sewing machine stitches. We should be able to finish the project in class. Would make a great holiday gift. Your instructor is Sue Moyer.

Crazy Quilt
This quilt is so much fun to make. It takes 30 10”

Cathedral Windows
This is a great quilt to use those scraps you
have been saving. The stained glass fabric blocks, when centered in solid color fabric look like window panes. This can be done by hand or hand and machine. Your instructor is Cathy Munson
